Unexpected Wanderlust Welcomes a New Blogger: Elias

Unexpected Wanderlust is excited to announce a brand new blogger! Elias, tell us about yourself!

Where have you been?

I’ve been to Germany, Poland, Israel, the Czech Republic, England, Italy, and Iceland!

Who are you?

I’m just your average 23-year-old blanket femme living in Boston after nesting in New Jersey, Florida, Las Vegas, and Hannover, Germany, respectively. I’m blessed/cursed with a chronic case of fernweh. My wallet is perpetually light and my bags are perpetually heavy, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Where are you now and where are you headed?

Currently hunkered down in Boston, MA until…who knows?

Travel goals for the foreseeable future: Salem, MA; Mystic, CT; Montreal, Quebec

With all of these travel plans, are you the secret love child of aristocrats?

Nope! I was awarded a Fulbright grant to go to Germany, and managed to fund my travels through budget traveling, a tutoring gig here and there, and sheer force of will.

What do you hope to learn by traveling?

I want to learn how to be self-sufficient and completely dependent at the same time. I want to know people and learn why they chose to be where they are.

Why is traveling important to you?

The personal challenge of overcoming my own desire for stability and resistance to change has helped me understand that every experience is an opportunity for self-imposed boundaries to be destroyed. Also, I like to try new food!
